Ingredients:

  • 1 lb (450g) lean ground beef (90% lean)
  • 1/2 cup (60g) finely diced white onion
  • 1 tsp (5g) garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp (3g) smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp (3g) salt
  • 1/4 tsp (1g) cracked black pepper
  • 1 tbsp (15ml) olive oil
  • 1 pack (12 count) Hawaiian rolls
  • 6 slices (168g) thin-cut sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup (150g) sliced dill pickles
  • Fresh shredded lettuce
  • 2 tbsp (28g) melted unsalted butter
  • 1 tbsp (15g) melted light butter or Greek yogurt
  • 1 clove (5g) minced garlic
  • 1 tbsp (15ml) chopped fresh parsley

Instructions:

  1. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and diced onions, cooking until the beef is browned and the onions are translucent.
  2. Stir in the garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Cook for another 2 minutes, then drain any residual liquid.
  3. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  4. Using a serrated knife, slice the entire block of Hawaiian rolls in half horizontally without separating them.
  5. Place the bottom half of the rolls in a 9x13 inch sheet pan. Spread the cooked ground beef evenly across the bread.
  6. Layer the cheddar cheese slices over the meat, add sliced dill pickles if desired, and place the top half of the rolls back on.
  7. Whisk together melted butter, light butter or Greek yogurt, minced garlic, and fresh parsley to create a glaze. Brush the glaze evenly over the top of the rolls.
  8. Bake for 25 minutes or until the rolls are golden brown and the cheese is melted.
  9. Serve with fresh shredded lettuce.
