Ingredients:
- 4 large Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples (approx. 200g each)
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter, cut into small pats
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/4 cup rolled oats
- 1/4 cup finely chopped walnuts
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp melted unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup water or apple cider
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Use an apple corer or knife to remove the center of each apple, creating a deep well, leaving about 1/4 inch of fruit at the bottom to prevent stuffing from leaking. Set apples in a 9x13 inch baking dish.
- In a medium bowl, combine the brown sugar, rolled oats, chopped walnuts, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Stir in the melted butter until the mixture forms a fragrant, gritty paste.
- Spoon the cinnamon mixture generously into each apple cavity, pressing down slightly to pack it in. Place one pat of cold butter on top of each stuffed apple.
- Pour the water or apple cider into the bottom of the baking dish to prevent the sugar from scorching. Bake for 40–50 minutes until the apples are tender when pierced with a knife and the tops are bubbling and mahogany-colored.
