Ingredients:

  • 3 lbs mixed apples (Gala, Fuji, Braeburn, or Jonagold)
  • 0.5 cup water
  • 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 pinch sea salt

Instructions:

  1. Peel, core, and cut the apples into uniform 1-inch chunks to ensure even cooking.
  2. Combine the apple chunks, water, lemon juice, cinnamon stick, and a pinch of salt in a heavy-bottomed pot or Dutch oven.
  3. Cover the pot tightly and bring to a simmer over medium-low heat for 20 minutes, or until apples are tender.
  4. Remove the cinnamon stick and mash with a potato masher for a chunky texture or use an immersion blender for a smooth finish.
