Ingredients:
- 4 large firm apples (approx. 2 lbs / 900g), peeled, cored, and sliced into 1/4-inch rounds
- 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- 2 tbsp pure maple syrup
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/8 tsp sea salt
Instructions:
- Toss the apple slices with the lemon juice in a medium bowl. Note: This prevents oxidation and preps the surface.
- Place a 12 inch heavy bottomed skillet over medium heat and melt the butter until it begins to shimmer.
- Add apple slices in a single layer and sauté for 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until edges are translucent.
- Sprinkle cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt evenly over the apples.
- Pour in the maple syrup over the top of the slices.
- Stir gently to coat everything in the mixture.
- Reduce heat to medium low and simmer for 5–8 minutes until the sauce reduces into a glossy mahogany syrup.
- Remove from heat once the apples are tender but still hold their shape.
