Ingredients:

  • 4 large firm apples (approx. 2 lbs / 900g), peeled, cored, and sliced into 1/4-inch rounds
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Peel and core the apples, then slice each apple into uniform 1/4-inch rounds.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter and vanilla extract. Toss the apple slices gently until every piece is evenly coated.
  3. In a separate small bowl, combine the light brown sugar, ground cinnamon, ground ginger, and salt. Sprinkle the sugar mixture over the buttered apples and toss lightly to ensure a mahogany-colored coating.
  4. Arrange the coated apple slices in a single layer in a 9x13 inch baking dish, ensuring they do not overlap excessively to avoid steam pockets.
  5. Bake for 30–35 minutes until the edges are bubbling and the apples are tender but still hold their shape.
  6. Remove from the oven and let the apples rest for 5 minutes to allow the glaze to thicken before serving.
