Ingredients:
- 1 lb lean ground beef
- 1 medium yellow onion, finely diced
- 1 medium green bell pepper, diced
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
- 3/4 cup ketchup
- 1 tbsp brown sugar, packed
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp yellow mustard
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp chili powder
- salt to taste
- black pepper to taste
- 6 hamburger buns, split
- 2 tbsp salted butter, softened
Instructions:
- Place a cast-iron skillet over medium-hot embers. Add vegetable oil, lean ground beef, diced onion, and bell pepper. Cook, breaking the meat apart, until the beef is browned and vegetables are translucent. Drain any excess grease.
- Stir in ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, garlic powder, and chili powder. Move skillet to a cooler part of the grate and simmer for 10–12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens.
- Push the beef mixture to one side of the skillet. Spread softened butter on the cut side of the buns and press face-down onto the hot skillet for 1–2 minutes until golden-brown. Scoop beef mixture onto toasted buns and serve.
