Ingredients:
- 6 cups (1.36kg) Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples, peeled and sliced
- 1/2 cup (100g) granulated sugar
- 1 tbsp (8g) ground cinnamon
- 1 tbsp (15ml) lemon juice
- 2 tbsp (28g) unsalted butter
- 1 cup (125g) all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup (150g) granulated sugar
- 1 tsp (5g) baking powder
- 1/4 tsp (1.5g) salt
- 1/2 cup (120ml) whole milk
- 4 tbsp (56g) unsalted butter, melted
Instructions:
- Melt 2 tbsp (28g) butter in a skillet over medium heat. Toss in the sliced apples, 1/2 cup sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Sauté for 5–7 minutes until the apples are slightly softened and a syrupy glaze forms. Pour the mixture immediately into a 9x13-inch baking pan.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, 3/4 cup sugar, baking powder, and salt. Stir in the milk and melted butter until just combined; do not overmix.
- Spoon the batter evenly over the hot apples, dropping it in small mounds to create 'cobblestones'. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 45 minutes until the topping is deep golden brown and the fruit juices bubble.
